# Definition

From the [About - Scaled Agile Framework](https://scaledagileframework.com/about/):

> SAFe 6.0 is a knowledge base of proven, integrated principles, practices, and competencies for achieving business agility using Lean, Agile, and DevOps. It is built around Seven Core Competencies of Business Agility that are critical to achieving and sustaining a competitive advantage in an increasingly digital age

# Canonical Resources

[SAFe 6.0 (scaledagileframework.com)](https://scaledagileframework.com/) is the primary reference site. The [about SAFe](https://www.scaledagileframework.com/about/) page is a bit more gentle, and sets the scene well.

With the release of previous versions of SAFe, there were reference guides published by Dean Leffingwell and his team (example below)

- [SAFe 5.0 Distilled](https://scaledagile.com/resources/safe-distilled/)

However, with the release of SAFe 6.0, there is no current reference guide.

Although the following book written by Darren Wilmshurst (SAFe Fellow) and Lindy Quick (SAFe SPCT) is seen to provide the community need:

- [The SAFe Coaches Handbook](https://www.amazon.co.uk/SAFe%C2%AE-Coaches-Handbook-techniques-Portfolios-ebook/dp/B0C2Z2KJ7D)

If you prefer to learn by visual means, rather than books and the SAFe Website, then Scaled Agile do have their own Youtube Channel, which now has a lot of content that was once behind a certification paywall.

Cprime’s FAQ is a pretty good intro to SAFe: [What is Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe)? Info & Training | Cprime](https://www.cprime.com/what-is-safe/)

For anyone who finds themselves involved in SAFe ART Launches, or in the role of the Release Train Engineer (RTE), then the following book is often quoted as a ‘must read’…

- [The ART of Avoiding a Train Wreck](https://prettyagile.com/books/the-art-of-avoiding-a-train-wreck/#:~:text=In%20The%20ART%20of%20Avoiding,shot%20at%20a%20first%20impression.)

Em Campbell-Petty and Adrienne Wilson, have drawn on their own experiences, to provide a book full of practical advice and actionable ideas.
